Day-care centers warned about swine flu

WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Employees at day-care centers should be vaccinated against swine flu, U.S. health officials said Friday.

In other advice for the 360,000 facilities for early childhood care and education, officials said good hygiene is important, including cleaning surfaces and encouraging children to wash their hands frequently, The Washington Post reported. Children who show any symptoms should be sent home immediately.

Parents can also help prevent the spread of swine flu by keeping children home if they show any symptoms and not sending them back to day care for at least 24 hours after they last have a fever.

Guidelines have already been released for elementary schools, high schools and colleges and universities. The suggestions for day-care centers do not differ markedly from the earlier ones.
