GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A quick-thinking passerby broke the fall of a 6-year-old boy from a seven-story apartment window in Gothenburg, Sweden, police said.
The boy was hospitalized in serious condition but was expected to survive Friday's fall, the Swedish news agency TT reported Saturday.
A police officer on patrol saw the boy dangling from the window and rushed upstairs but arrived too late to catch the him, police spokeswoman Pia Goksoyr said.
A passerby on the ground also saw the boy and ran to catch him, cushioning the boy's fall and possibly saving his life, Goksoyr said. Police were investigating the incident as an accident.
"It may be that the boy shut himself in his room to be by himself and the parents outside the door in the apartment were unaware of what had happened," Goksoyr said.
