Pollard's atty: release classified report

JERUSALEM, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The attorney for jailed spy Jonathan Pollard condemned the decision to keep secret a report by an Israeli official concluding Pollard should be freed.

"There are still dark secrets in the Pollard affair that the government does not want the people to know, Nitzana Darshan-Leitner said in reaction to the report by Israeli Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss.

"The Israeli public must demand that the entire report be published. Once the entire report is released, the public can decide if Israel's (current and former) governments have attempted to free Pollard, or if every single government has abandoned Pollard to his misery," IsraelNN.com quoted Lindenstrauss as saying.

Pollard has been incarcerated in the United States since 1985.

A DEBKA-file Special Analysis said the comptroller's urging Israel to release Pollard is irrelevant, implying, in turn, that Pollard's attorney's demand that the comptroller's report be made public likewise would have little impact.
