Entire Ontario lottery board fired

TORONTO, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The provincial government fired the chief executive and all board members of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission after learning of lavish spending.

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan made the announcement in Toronto and said the provincial auditor-general would begin an investigation into expenses incurred by the executives, the Toronto Sun reported Tuesday.

"I don't like this. I don't think taxpayers like this," Duncan told reporters.

The expenses ranged from pizzas to high-end dinners and junkets to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., and were rife with bills for alcohol, which is not eligible for reimbursement by government employees under provincial law, the Sun said. Other expenses revealed were bills for a nanny and a car wash, reports said.

The firings included Chief Executive Officer Kelly McDougald and all six members of the board.

McDougald will not receive a compensation package, the Sun said.

The executives will be replaced temporarily by senior bureaucrats familiar with the corporation's activities, the report said.
