NEW YORK, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned amid scandal last year, is thinking about getting back into politics, unnamed sources told the New York Post.
"He's weighing it," one told the newspaper in a story published Tuesday.
Spitzer, a Democrat who served two terms as state attorney general, quit after revelations he had spent thousands of dollars on expensive call-girl services. Other sources, also unnamed, said Spitzer realizes that, at least in the short run, he would have no chance of getting elected.
One said there are people around Spitzer who would like him to run for office and "he sees himself there."
"He loves to be in the limelight," the source, described as a Spitzer ally, said. "But he knows it can't happen."
The New York Times said many of Spitzer's enemies would like him to run again.
"I'm salivating," Roger Stone, a Republican consultant and gadfly, told WGDJ-AM, Albany. "This man is comic gold. He's the gift that keeps on giving."
