HELPER, Utah, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- A car that had been traveling at speeds of more than 90 mph crashed into a concrete Jersey barrier near Helper, Utah, killing four teenagers, authorities said.
Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Jose Flores, 16, was driving his Chevrolet Aveo when the car hit the barrier and rolled once, The Salt Lake Tribune said Monday.
Flores, Manuel Gonzalez, 19; Mauro Lopez, 16, and Vanessa Estrada, 13, were killed in the crash Sunday, the report said. All were wearing seatbelts.
Cannon said the force of the car's impact split the steel-reinforced barrier.
"In 19 years, I've never seen a Jersey barrier broken," Cannon said.
Deputy Susan Morgan told the Tribune the speed limit at the turn where the crash occurred was 30 mph.
