MIAMI, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Weather forecasters downgraded the Pacific Ocean storm Kevin from a tropical storm to a tropical depression Monday.

Kevin's center was about 880 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja, Calif., Peninsula, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Kevin was plodding on a northern track at about 6 mph with sustained winds of about 35 mph.

Forecasters said they expected Kevin to continue to degrade during the next 24 hours.
