WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- National security adviser James Jones plans to lead a U.S delegation to Poland for the 70th anniversary of the start of World War II, the White House said.
The ceremony Tuesday "reminds us that the United States and Poland have long been bound by the deep ties among our people, our shared values of democracy and human rights, and our commitment to partner on behalf of our common security and prosperity," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement issued Monday.
In addition to Jones, a retired U.S. Marine general, the delegation to Gdansk will include Victor Ashe, the U.S. ambassador to Poland; Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, and Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, special assistant to the president and senior director for Europe for the National Security Council.
