BOGOTA, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Colombia President Alvaro Uribe was diagnosed with swine flu following his participation in a regional summit in Argentina, his doctors said.

The Colombian leader was resting but continuing his duties as president, physicians said in a Monday report in the El Tiempo newspaper.

Uribe, 57, had traveled to Argentina during the weekend for a summit of South American leaders to discuss the use of Colombian military bases by U.S. troops.

Nearly three-dozen people diagnosed with swine flu have died in Colombia.
