Homeowner may be charged in shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Authorities in Charlotte, N.C., say they are investigating a 76-year-old man's fatal shooting of a teenager after an alleged robbery attempt at the man's home.

Legal experts say various factors will determine whether charges are filed, mainly whether the man thought his life was in danger, The Charlotte Observer said Monday.

Four teens allegedly broke into the man's Charlotte home Saturday, police said.

Police had not named the shooter, but Larry McClure said his father, who was identified only as C.L., was the shooter and was frightened by the alleged robbers.

Police said the homeowner was tied up but was able to free himself and chase the youths with his car. After catching up with them two-tenths of a mile from his home, the man shot the teen, identified as 15-year-old Marcus Antonio Steven Flucker, police said.

The youth's mother, Felicia, has questioned why the homeowner did not call the police instead of confronting the teens.

"Marcus is not that type of person," she told the Observer. "He just got caught up that day with the wrong crowd."
