KEY BISCAYNE, Fla., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Rescue crews saved a child who was stuck in a pool skimmer, or filter, in Key Biscayne, Fla., Monday, officials said.

For some time, the child's mother was in the public pool, keeping her head above water, CBS 4, Gainesville, Fla., reported. CNN reported that the child was a 3-year-old girl.

Key Biscayne Fire Rescue crews made the main effort to free the child's arm from the filter, but the CBS 4 report said Miami rescue crews assisted.

Rescuers used a jackhammer, a hack saw, a reciprocating saw and other tools to free the child, CBS 4 reported.
