Kidnapped Frenchman released in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A French tourist kidnapped in Pakistan three months ago was released Friday, authorities said.

Pakistan police said the 41-year-old man was snatched by criminals, not by insurgents, Radio France Internationale reported. He was described as being in good condition when he was freed.

President Nicolas Sarkozy thanked Pakistani authorities "for their help in this happy conclusion."

The man came to Pakistan on a camping tour, traveling by car with five companions. He was kidnapped in Baluchistan, about 50 miles from the Afghan border.

He was to be transferred to the French embassy late Friday.
