LOS ANGELES, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A crack on a wing of an American Airlines flight prompted an emergency landing in Los Angeles, a Federal Aviation Administration official says.
FAA official Ian Gregor told CBS News the Boeing 757 aircraft involved in Friday's emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport landed safely with all 194 passengers and crew members unhurt.
American Airlines Flight 414 had been traveling from San Diego to Dallas/Fort-Worth when a crack was noticed on one of the jetliner's wings.
Jim Borta told CBS News he and other passengers were informed the flight would be landing in Los Angeles as a precaution after one passenger pointed out the damage to crew members.
The extent of the wing damage was not reported.
Gregor said FAA and American Airlines officials would be working together to determine the cause of the wing crack and what can be done to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
