Storm destroys 200 trees in Central Park

NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Two-hundred damaged trees must be removed from New York's Central Park following a recent storm, officials said.

Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe said the storm this week packed 70 mph winds.

The tree removal and other cleanup eff0rts will likely cost more than $1 million, the New York Post said Friday.

"I never thought I would see a full logging operation here," Benepe said..

Another 65 trees will be removed from Riverside Park.
