DEBARY, Fla., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Fire apparently caused by a lightning strike destroyed First Presbyterian Church in DeBary, Fla., the director of the church's preschool said.
Shannon Mandese said the church burned Thursday night and was a total loss, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.
"It's massive," Mandese said, describing how the fire looked. "You look into the sky and you see red."
Witnesses said the fire began shortly after several area lightning strikes.
A Volusia County Fire Services spokeswoman could not confirm that lightning started the fire.
Another fire, in Altamone Springs, was caused by lightning, Seminole County fire officials said. The fire, at a power substation, resulted in 7,700 area residents losing power.
No injuries were reported in either blaze.
