Burning smell prompts aircraft landing

LA ROCHELLE, France, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A fire official in La Rochelle, France, says no one was hurt when an EasyJet aircraft made an emergency landing because of a burning smell on the airplane.

An unidentified local fire service spokesman said Wednesday's emergency landing at the French airport came about after some of the airplane's 165 passengers reported smelling something burning on board the Airbus A320, London's Daily Mail reported.

The airplane, which also carried six crew members, had been flying from London to Faro, Portugal, when the landing took place.

The fire official said an investigation of the aircraft did result in an explanation for the reported mid-air smell.

"Firemen then boarded the Airbus to inspect it with a heat-sensitive camera," he told The Daily Mail. "There seemed to be no obvious explanation for the burning smell."

An unidentified EasyJet spokesman said the aircraft did experience a small electrical problem during the flight, prompting the precautionary landing.
