HOUSTON, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Houston police say a 19-year-old man they are holding is suspected of shooting eight people at a July event at Texas Southern University.
Houston Police Department spokesman Kese Smith said Albert Walker Mondane surrendered to authorities Friday after weeks of searching by authorities for the suspect in the July 22 shooting, the Houston Chronicle reported Saturday.
Mondane is suspected of being one of an unspecified number of individuals who fired into a crowd assembled near a TSU parking lot. The assembly was for an event known as Trae Day, which was in honor of Houston rapper Trae.
Eight people received gunshot wounds, none of them serious.
No motive for the shooting was reported.
The Chronicle said Mondane, who was being held on $30,000 bail, has been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.
