Train hits bus at crossing, kills 13

BUCHAREST, Romania, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- The death toll of a train-bus collision Friday in northeastern Romania rose to 13 when two people succumbed to their injuries, an official said.

The two victims died on their way to a hospital, said Raed Arafat, Romanian deputy state secretary for health.

The passenger train ran into a mini-bus, carrying 16 people, at a grade crossing near the northeastern town of Iasi. Eleven people were killed outright and the other two died later were among five others injured, police said.

All the casualties were aboard the mini-bus, the Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

The mini-bus was hit by the train as the driver apparently ignored stop signals, police said.

The train struck the middle of the mini-bus and carried it several hundred yards to the Scanteia railway station, Mediafax said. No one aboard the train was injured.
