Police detain fake cancer doctor

BELGRADE, Serbia, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- A 56-year-old self-styled doctor was arrested after he collected an estimated $1.4 million from about 100 Serbian cancer patients, police said.

Nenad Roso, who practiced alternative medicine, claimed he could cure cancer in advertisements on several Serbian television stations in the past year, Belgrade's B92 online said.

Roso charged $400 for a checkup. He claimed he could cure cancer with what he described as magnetic field vibrations and a "rife generator," for which he charged as much as $11,350 for treatment, police said.

Roso was reported to police by a woman from Kragujevac in central Serbia after she paid him $4,600 for her husband's alleged medical therapy, which ended in the man's death.

Police are still calculating how much money Roso could have collected from sick people who believed him.
