LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- An arrest warrant was issued for the chief of staff to Bill Clinton when he was Arkansas governor, charging her with smuggling contraband into a state prison.
Betsey Wright was expected to turn herself into authorities next week, her attorney, Jeff Rosenzweig, told CNN in a report published Thursday.
Wright allegedly smuggled a bag holding 48 tattoo needles, a pen with tweezers and a needle inside, a Swiss Army knife and a box cutter into the Varner Unit, the high-security state prison at Grady, Ark., the bench warrant said.
Wright is an advocate for prisoners and has befriended inmates at Varner, Rosenzweig said.
"We are very disappointed the prosecutor has chosen to issue charges," he said. "We have no choice but to seek vindication in court."
Wright was Clinton's as chief of staff for seven years in Arkansas.
