LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A high-ranking Los Angeles official has been suspended while police investigate a woman's claim that he raped her in his condominium, city officials said.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has placed the official, Andrew Adelman, on administrative leave from his position as general manager of the Department of Building and Safety, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
Adelman has not been arrested or charged criminally, the newspaper said.
Los Angeles Police Department detectives are investigating an allegation by a woman who says Adelman raped her July 10.
Court documents indicate the alleged victim said she and friends were out drinking in the downtown area and that she blacked out after several drinks. A search warrant dated July 28 indicates the woman awoke the following morning at Adelman's condominium, where she told investigators a man she subsequently identified as Adelman was sexually assaulting her.
Adelman's attorney, Mark Geragos, told the Times it is "unfortunate that ... an investigation has been made public before any determination of the validity of the allegations have been made."
