None of the 80 officers and firefighters who responded to the riot were injured, CNN said Sunday.

Four inmates with life-threatening injuries were airlifted to hospitals and 36 others taken to hospitals by ambulance and truck, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The medium-security prison has seven housing units, each with about 200 inmates. The riot began in the Reception Center West facility and spread, Hargrove said.

The cause of the riot had yet to be determined, Hargrove said.
