Canada's Harper, Obama schedule meeting

OTTAWA, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper will meet with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington next month, Harper's office said Friday.

The news emerged at a media briefing in Ottawa about the so-called Three Amigos meeting Sunday and Monday in Mexico between Obama, Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Sun Media reported.

Harper has a one-on-one meeting scheduled with Calderon, but not Obama, the Canwest News Service said.

Harper's Sept. 16 White House meeting will be his first since Obama took office, although the two met privately in Ottawa in February during Obama's first foreign trip after his inauguration a month earlier.

The two leaders also met at a Group of Eight summit in Italy in July.

Harper's office said the September meeting's agenda will include climate change and energy, security cooperation, economic recovery and trade, Canwest said.
