Mother arrested over daughter's shooting

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old woman has been arrested in the accidental shooting of her 5-year-old daughter in Orlando, Fla., police say.

The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said Wednesday that Arkeisha Perez was arrested and charged with allowing a minor access to a weapon with injury, unsafe storage of a firearm and aggravated child abuse in relation to Tuesday's shooting.

Specific details regarding the recent shooting remain unclear, but the incident left Perez's 5-year-old daughter, Jazyire Emery Sims, in critical condition at an area hospital.

"We don't have any suspects," police Lt. Darryl Braunskill said. "You got people in the apartment complex and something happened. They have to have some sort of idea of what happened or saw what was going on at the apartment."

Jarvis Sims, the father of the injured child, claimed his daughter was shot at the front door of her mother's apartment by another child. That allegation has not been confirmed.

The Sentinel said Perez's daughter will be relocated to a foster home after the 5-year-old recovers from her injury and is released from the hospital.
