LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Detroit became the second commercial aircraft this week to run into severe turbulence, an airline spokesman says.

The 50-seat regional jet was forced to make an emergency landing in Louisville, Ky., after two passengers suffered minor injuries, USA Today reported Wednesday.

The plane took off from Knoxville, Tenn., late Tuesday afternoon and ran into turbulnce about 15 miles southeast of Evansville, Ind. while flying at 30,000 feet, said Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown.

At the time, the region was pounded by a storm front that drenched the Louisville area with 4.5 inches of rain.

A spokesman for Pinnacle Airlines that was operating the Delta flight said the turbulence knocked a flight attendant to the floor and one passenger suffered minor injuries.
