Terrorist convict testifies against friend

ATLANTA, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A Georgia man facing terrorism charges videotaped potential targets, including federal landmarks and oil tanks, his alleged co-conspirator testified Wednesday.

Syed Haris Ahmed told a jury of detailed conversations he allegedly had with the defendant, Ehsanul Islam Sadequee, about helping overseas terrorists plot a violent jihad , the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Ahmed, a former Georgia Institute of Technology student, was convicted in June of conspiring to help terrorists.

Prosecutors played videotapes of a trip Ahmed, 24, and Sadequee, 23, allegedly took to Washington. When the Pentagon flashed on the screen, jurors heard Sadequee say, "This is where our brothers attacked the Pentagon."

Sadequee, representing himself, is expected to cross-examine Ahmed Thursday.

Jurors also listened as FBI agents set forth details of electronic conversations between the two about allegedly robbing people and selling marijuana to fund a trip to Pakistan.

Sadequee cross-examined an FBI agent, during which he pointed out that the lighthearted slang he used during the online communications indicated the conversations were not serious.

Ahmed has yet to be sentenced. After initially refusing to testify against Sadequee, he changed his mind when federal prosecutors agreed not to use his testimony against him.
