WARSAW, Poland, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- A court in Szczecin, northwest Poland, set a precedent when it ruled a woman should be punished for calling a homosexual man a "fag," observers say.

Szczecin Judge Urszula Chmielewska ordered Anna S., 44, to apologize Ryszard G., 25, for calling him a faggot last year in a grocery store in Wolin Island, Polish Radio said Wednesday.

Anna was also ordered to pay a $5,256 fine for publicly using the word that was offensive to Ryszard, who has the right to live normal life regardless of his sexual orientation, the report said.

The court ruling should make Anna change her behavior, the judge said.

However, Anna pleaded innocent and said she will appeal the ruling.
