Plot to attack army base uncovered

MELBOURNE, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Four men appeared in an Australian magistrates court Wednesday in connection with a plot to carry out a suicide attack at an army base in Sydney.

The four, along with a fifth man, were apprehended in the Melbourne area and held overnight before their appearance in court, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Wissam Fattal, 33, and Yacqub Khayre, 33, are charged with preparing for a terrorist act.

Sany Aweys, 26, and Abdirahman Ahmed, 25, are charged with aiding and abetting a man to engage in hostile acts overseas.

The fifth man in the case, Nayef El Sayed, 25, appeared in court Tuesday.
