Israel's FM will resign if indicted

JERUSALEM, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said he would resign if the attorney general upholds police recommendations to charge him.

Speaking at the Israel Beitenu party faction meeting Monday, Lieberman said he is happy the investigation has reached a conclusion.

"I am at peace with my actions and if I had the opportunity to do the same things again, I would do the same," The Jerusalem Post quoted

Lieberman saying.

The "watershed" will be when Attorney General Menachem Mazuz makes a final decision on whether to indict , Haaretz said .

Lieberman said if indicted, he would resign from his post as foreign minister immediately and later step down as party chairman, Haaretz said.

Lieberman said he believes he will remain in his post and his party will win 20 seats in parliament in the next general elections, Haaretz said.

Israeli police Sunday recommended indicting Lieberman for an array of crimes, ranging from corruption and money laundering to obstruction of justice and breach of faith.
