STROUDSBURG, Pa., July 30 (UPI) -- Homes and buildings in Monroe County, Pa., were damaged when severe thunderstorms in the area spawned a tornado, AccuWeather.com says.
The meteorological Web site reported Thursday that two Monroe County homes lost their roofs in Wednesday's tornado, while a garage and four large farm buildings were destroyed by the twister.
The tornado, which was given an EF-2 tornado intensity based on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, also knocked down area power lines and trees. Two people were also injured with one requiring hospitalization.
While EF-5 level tornadoes can exceed wind speeds of 200 mph, Wednesday's EF-2 twister is estimated to have topped off at 120 mph.
Meanwhile, officials in the township of Wantage, N.J., said several area barns and homes were damaged by a tornado likely spawned by the same thunderstorms that threatened Monroe County.
AccuWeather.com said a state of emergency has been instituted by Wantage Mayor Parker Space, although reports of the tornado touchdown have yet to be confirmed.
