Suspected illegals found in desert

PHOENIX, July 29 (UPI) -- Arizona sheriff's deputies say they found four suspected illegal immigrants in the desert about 50 miles southwest of Phoenix, one of them dead.

The three survivors, suffering from what appeared to be heat exposure, were airlifted to hospitals Tuesday, The Arizona Republic reported.

Doug Matteson, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, said the department got a number of calls from people who spotted the group in the Barry M. Goldwater Range near Gila Bend. Deputies and Border Patrol agents found them after several hours of searching.

When they are released from the hospital, the three will be detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Matteson said.
