NEW YORK, July 29 (UPI) -- The Federal Aviation Administration says it is investigating a lost civilian pilot's harrowing flight through the landing path at New York's Kennedy Airport.
John Prendergast, 69, of Sterling, Va., had not been charged with anything as of Wednesday. However, the FAA was still investigating the weekend incident that forced JFK controllers to hurriedly reroute incoming airliners.
"At least twice, he interfered with aircraft that were attempting to land at Kennedy while they were on final approach," FAA spokesman Jim Peters told the New York Post.
Prendergast apparently was unable to locate his destination on Long Island and flew several circles east of Kennedy International Airport before a New York Police Department helicopter was able to flag him down and escort him to the correct air field.
