Police use stun gun on disabled man

MOBILE, Ala., July 28 (UPI) -- Mobile, Ala., police allegedly used a stun gun on a deaf and mentally disabled man to get him to leave a bathroom at a store, police records show.

Antonio Love, 37, was forcible removed from the Dollar General store bathroom after officers shot pepper spray under the door and then used a stun gun on him for resisting arrest, the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register reported Tuesday.

The officers left Love in the parking lot of his apartment building after a jail magistrate refused to book Love on charges of disorderly conduct and failure to obey a police officer, said Love's brother, Brodrick Love, who has filed a formal complaint against the officers.

Antonio Love, who has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, told his family through sign language that he was in the bathroom because he was sick to his stomach.

Mobile police supervisors are investigating the incident, a department spokesman told the Press-Register.
