SAN ANTONIO, July 28 (UPI) -- A San Antonio, Texas, mother charged with decapitating her infant son suffers from schizophrenia and postpartum psychosis, her family said.
Otty Sanchez, 33, allegedly confessed to killing 3-week-old Scott Buchholz Sanchez Sunday with a steak knife and two swords before decapitating him and eating part of his brain, nose and toes, police said.
Sanchez was charged with capital murder and hospitalized for self-inflicted knife wounds, the San Antonio Express-News reported Tuesday.
Sanchez was diagnosed with schizophrenia last year and postpartum psychosis after the baby was born, said Greg Garcia, a first cousin who said he considers Sanchez a sister.
The baby's father, Scott W. Buchholz, said Sanchez should be put to death for allegedly killing their son, the Express-News reported.
"She was a sweet person and I still love her, but she needs to pay the ultimate price for what she has done," Buchholz, who also allegedly has schizophrenia, told the Express-News.
