Two killed, 15 wounded in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, July 27 (UPI) -- Separate shootings within hours of each other killed two people and injured another 15, including 12 at a cookout, Baltimore police said.

Sunday's violence on the city's east side was unprecedented this year, Baltimore police said, noting a 5 percent increase in homicides citywide by this time last year.

Shortly before 9 p.m., a gunman entered a backyard and opened fire injuring 12, including a pregnant woman and a 2-year-old girl, police spokesman Donny Moses told The Baltimore Sun.

Two hours later, two males ages 18 and 19 were fatally shot in Baltimore Highlands and two men were arrested, Moses said. Other shootings reported Sunday night brought to 15 the number of people injured in the city by gunfire, he said.

In a separate incident, police Sunday night found a Lexus, its lights still on, parked in front of Johns Hopkins Hospital with at least eight bullet holes in the driver's side. The shooting did not occur at the hospital and no information was immediately available on who was driving the car, police said.
