Two charged in ballpark killing

PHILADELPHIA, July 27 (UPI) -- Two men were charged Monday in the beating death of a man during a brawl Saturday at a pub connected to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, police said.

Charles Bowers, 35, and James Groves, 45, were charged with murder in the death of David Sale of Lansdale. Pa. They were arrested in the parking lot of the stadium after the beating, Tthe Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday.

A third man, Francis Kirchner, 28, fled the scene, but turned himself in at police headquarters shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

Lt. Frank Vanore, a police spokesman, said the three men came to the ballpark on a bus trip.

Sale was at a bachelor party at McFadden's pub, which is attached to the stadium. He was a brother of the bride-to-be.

Vanore said the fight began in the bar and spilled out to the parking lot.

"Several witnesses and potential suspects were taken into custody immediately," Vanore said.
