PARIS, July 27 (UPI) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy was discharged from a military hospital in Paris Monday where he was taken after fainting during a run.
While officials are denying a heart condition led to Sarkozy's collapse Sunday, one government source said the president was ordered to rest, The Times of London reported.
Sarkozy's office issued a statement saying the 54-year-old president collapsed from exhaustion during a 45-minute jog. The statement said Sarkozy suffered a "lipothymic malaise," caused by a "sustained effort in great heat and without a loss of consciousness in a context linked to tiredness linked to an important workload."
Tests during Sarkozy's hospital stay ruled out a cardiovascular condition, the statement said.
French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde was to fill in for Sarkozy at a meeting on the economic crisis Monday and a public appearance in Normandy Tuesday was canceled.
