DAYTON, Ohio, July 27 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old Ohio resident says he found a missing 8-month-old and 2-year-old alive inside a trash can Monday in Dayton.

Baron Bates said he and Dale Fenty found Ashonti Johnson, 2, and Tommie Johnson III, 8 months, in a trash bin outside Felty Electric, which is owned by one of the children's father, Tommy Johnson, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported.

The elder Johnson, who is the father of Ashonti, is suspected of taking the children after an argument with their mother Sunday night.

Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Johnson, who allegedly has a history of domestic violence and drug use, was arrested and charged with domestic violence Monday morning.

Biehl said the children, who were found sweaty and dirty inside the trash can, appear to be in good condition.

"All things considered this was incredibly fortunate," the police chief told the Daily News.
