DETROIT, July 26 (UPI) -- The woman who oversaw the Detroit Police Department's compliance with a U.S. court order has resigned over her ties with the former mayor, court records show.
Detroit paid Kroll Associates $10 million during a six-year period for Sheryl Robinson Wood's services as a monitor. Some city officials are calling for the money to be returned, The Detroit News reported Saturday.
The city signed a consent agreement with the U.S. Justice Department, which had found evidence of civil rights violations including brutality, unsafe holding cells and arrests of witnesses.
Wood resigned late Thursday, the News said.
U.S. District Judge Julian Abele Cook Jr. said in a court order making the resignation final Friday that Wood was involved in "undisclosed communications, as well as meetings of a personal nature, with the former City of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick during the term of the consent judgments, which included inappropriate discussions with him about this lawsuit."
Kilpatrick resigned last year after admitting perjury.
