In a visit to the country, Gates said the creation of a national identity database in India would help track infants who need immunizations and allow all Indians to have bank accounts, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Gates told a media briefing in New Delhi that as computers and cell phones can be used to modernize access to public services in rural parts of India as they become more user-friendly.
For example, he said computers could be used to deliver video lectures to villages or allow doctors to examine patients remotely.
