AMHERST, N.Y., July 23 (UPI) -- Town board members in Amherst, N.Y., say they are concerned the children's restaurant Chuck E. Cheese's offers questionable child activities.
Amherst Town Board Member Shelly Schratz said some of the video games at the restaurant chain's Amherst location are too violent for children of certain ages, the Buffalo (N.Y.) News said Thursday.
"When I see 6-year-olds, 8-year-olds playing those games, when all the time we're opening the paper and seeing those stories on youth violence, do we need those games to make money?" Schratz said.
The Amherst Chuck E. Cheese's failed to renew its game license through the board this week due to a 3-3 council vote.
Without an approved game license, the popular kids' eatery and entertainment venue will not be allowed to run its arcade games.
Chuck E. Cheese's spokeswoman Brenda Holloway told the Buffalo News her company would take steps to address the concerns of the Amherst board.
"It's a very big deal to us," she said. "We definitely will respond."
