Clinton urges justice for terror backers

MUMBAI, July 19 (UPI) -- Pakistan must bring the perpetrators of last year's Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says.

Speaking Saturday in an interview with India's Times Now English-language TV channel, Clinton said Islamabad needs to go after the alleged organizers of the attacks.

"There must be an eventual reckoning of justice," she said. "I believe that there has to be justice, that there has to be a full vetting and a thorough analysis of what happened and who was behind it, just as I think with any terrorist attack," Clinton said.

Also Saturday, Clinton joined a panel discussion with Bollywood star Aamir Khan in Mumbai, where she urged both countries to do better in extending the benefits of education to bigger sections of their societies.

"I believe every child can learn," Clinton told an audience made up mainly of volunteer educators at Saint Xavier's College. "I do not believe that children, regardless of their backgrounds, have limited or no capacity. But I believe they don't have equal opportunity. I think that talent is distributed universally, but opportunity is limited."

Other topics on the agenda for Clinton's three-day trip to India include climate change, arms sales and nuclear power.

Agreements on arm sales from the United States to India were to be signed Monday and India was expected to announce two sites for U.S. built nuclear reactors during Clinton's visit, the Times of India reported.

Clinton also was sit down Monday with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues, the Indo-Asian News Service reported.
