MONROE, La., July 18 (UPI) -- Luv N' Care Ltd. of Monroe, La., says safety concerns about the gel in its Nuby Gel Filled Teethers has led it to voluntarily recall the infant product.

The company said in a U.S. Food and Drug Administration release Friday that the gel filling of the infant teething product has been found to contain Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus circulans.

The Luv N' Care nationwide recall also includes Cottontails teethers with the UPC codes 41520-87115 and 41520-91660, along with Playschool Teethers with the UPC codes 50428-91511.

The company said while consuming the gel inside the products typically does not bring about illness, the filling can cause adverse reactions in children with weakened immune systems.

Those reactions can include diarrhea, stomach pain and vomiting. To date, no illnesses have been reported blaming the recalled items.

Individuals in possession of the recalled products are urged to either return the goods to their place of purchase for a refund or simply discard them. Estimates regarding the number of teethers being recalled were not reported.
