LOS ANGELES, July 18 (UPI) -- Two people died Saturday afternoon in the crash of an experimental, single-engine plane in Santa Clarita, Calif., north of Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 12:10 p.m. PDT, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. FAA records indicate the plane was registered to Ron Weiss, 43, of Encino, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reported.

Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, told the newspaper he did not know where the flight originated or the plane's destination.

The cause of the crash was not known. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board plan to investigate the crash, the Times said.
