SAN DIEGO, July 17 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles area man has been charged with murder on the high seas in the death of his wife aboard a cruise ship, the FBI says.

The body of Shirley McGill, 55, was found in her cabin on the Carnival Elation while on a cruise along the Mexican coast, CNN reported.

Her husband, Robert McGill, in his mid-50s, was arrested and housed in the ship's brig for the return trip to San Diego, Calif. The FBI said a domestic dispute was responsible but did not elaborate.

The 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation had departed on the five-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas last Saturday.
