GREENBELT, Md., July 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Capitol Police say a Capitol police officer was shot and wounded while exchanging gunfire with a suspect in Greenbelt, Md.
Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said the officer, whose identity was not reported, was off-duty Thursday when he/she suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shootout, Politico reported.
"The off-duty U.S. Capitol Police officer was shot and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was shot multiple times and transported to a local hospital. A bystander was also treated for a graze wound and transported to a local hospital," the spokeswoman said in a statement.
The spokeswoman did offer additional specifics of the incident, including the suspect's identity, but said the shooting is being investigated by police in Prince Georges County, Md.
Politico, citing a Fox News report, said four people were hurt during Thursday's shooting incident. The condition of the shooting victims, which included a 12-year-old girl, was not reported.
