MIAMI BEACH, Fla., July 17 (UPI) -- A fire official in Miami Beach, Fla., said wooden frames inside an abandoned stone mansion caught fire Friday and burned for nearly an hour.
Assistant Fire Chief Javier Otero told The Miami Herald the blaze at the mansion, once the property of the family that ran Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, was quickly contained by firefighters working with the U.S. Coast Guard and other fire-rescue agencies.
Miami Beach officials put a plan in place that outlined the nearest fire hydrants to the abandoned mansion.
A real estate listing said the mansion has more than 11,000 square feet of living space, including 10 bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a gym.
The 1925 property once belonged to the owners of the Windjammer family business, but became abandoned in the wake of Windjammer president Daniel Burke's death in 2007.
No injuries were reported and there were no details of structural damage.
