CHICAGO, July 17 (UPI) -- Chicago police had no suspects in custody Friday in the shooting of an 8-year-old South Side boy who was watching television in his bedroom.
Jonmel Galloway was hit by a bullet that entered his left upper arm and came to rest in his left side, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The stray bullet pierced a window of the family's second-story apartment in the Englewood neighborhood.
His father, Walter Walker, told the Chicago Tribune the boy's recovery, both emotional and physical, will take a long time.
"We're all supposed to be safe in our homes, right?" Walker said. "But it happens."
Patricia Walsh, commander of Wentworth area police, says so far no witnesses have come forward and investigators are not sure who was the target of the Wednesday night shooting.
