RENO, Nev., July 17 (UPI) -- Two wildfires have scorched more than 10,000 acres in the Sierra Nevada mountains along the California-Nevada state line, fire officials said Friday.
Voluntary evacuation orders for houses in the area near Reno, Nev., were lifted late Thursday, KOLO-TV, Reno, reported. But the Washoe County (Nev.) Sheriff's Office warned residents the blazes remain dangerous and they should be ready to leave at any time.
The fires, named Trailer 1 and Red Rock, both started Wednesday and are believed to have had the same cause, a trailer under tow.
By Friday morning, the Trailer 1 fire had burned about 1,336 acres and was reported to be 30 percent contained. The much bigger Red Rock fire had spread to 9,898 acres and was only 10 percent contained.
More than 600 people, including the elite California hotshot firefighting crews, were involved in the firefighting effort.
