LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., July 14 (UPI) -- Five suspects were arrested after a ton of Mexican marijuana was seized from a tractor-trailer in Georgia, authorities in Gwinnett County said Tuesday.
Investigators say the marijuana, a total of 2,462 pounds, was driven from Mexico to the Atlanta area, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Cpl. David Schiralli, a spokesman for the county police, said the investigation was conducted jointly by Gwinnett County and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
The arrests were made between July 2 and last Saturday.
Four Georgia men were charged with drug trafficking. They were identified as Edilberto Gijon-Jimenez of Atlanta, Ramon Hernandez-Castro of Norcross, Gilberty Riviera-Alcaraz of Lawrenceville and Jesus Hernandez-Gutierrez of Sugar Hill.
Pedro Mendoza-Lugo of Las Vegas, Nev., was charged with conspiracy.
